Unfortunately, George Carlin died yesterday at the age of 71. He placed second on the Comedy Central cable television network list of the 10 greatest stand-up comedians.
I like a few words of him taken from his shows . Here is the one that I like the most:
“But in the business department, a business man can’t hold the candle to a clergyman. ‘Cause I got to tell you the truth, I got to tell you the truth folks.
When it comes to bullshit, big time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in all, of the all times champion of false premises and exaggerated claims : Religion. No contest. No contest.
Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it… Religion has actually convinced people,… that there is an invisible man,… living in the sky,… who watches everything you do, every minute and every day…. And this invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do…. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, for the fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish… where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry, forever and ever to the end of time…. But He loves you!… He loves you and He needs money!… He always need money! He is all powerful and all perfect and all knowing and all wise …somehow…just can’t handle money. Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holly sheet !
But I want you to know something. This is sincere. When it comes to believe in God I really, really tried. I tried to believe there is a God, who created each of us in his image and likeness , loves us very much and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe. But I got to tell ya:
More you live, the more you look around, the more you realize that something is fucked up. Something is wrong here.”
