Outside the Blur

Aggression is present in all of us everyday life. You can see it at on every corner of the street, in social human behavior, in television, movies, history. Somehow, to be violent it is embedded in our nature. In time, we lived and evolved in a world full of violence, in a savage habitat where violence is the dominant characteristic: The gazelle is eating quietly some vegetation and the lion is hunting it to eat it to the dinner.

There is part in the human brain responsible for the aggressive behavior: the small brain which comes directly from the ancestral evolution. At the beginning, the brain was small and in time added new layers, the superior layers of the brain. The basic layers remained in its centre and are associated with the primitive instincts like: reproduction, defense, survival , eating. This is the place where the aggression behavior lies also. These instincts are literally written in the very basic structure of the brain and you can’t ignore them. They are written deep inside you. When someone is attacking you, your first reaction is to defend yourself against the attacker. This is the behavior you’ll have.

When we speak of these basic instincts the conscious mind is far away. In such a moment, you can’t have consciousness because you are living at a primarily level (defense). This is not existence where you are, this is survival.

Humanity has never been completely at a higher level of existence, only parts of it. Some developed nations have a wealth status although, and consequently, their people gained a higher state of consciousness. They don’t need no more to gain their existence by using the primordial instincts because they have all they need to survive and even more.

But in the developing countries like the most countries of Africa, the situation is very problematic. There are people which die because of starvation. Consciousness here does not have its place and the control is taken completely by the primary instincts of survival. Talking about ethics and morality here is a nonsense. Life itself is not moral for those people living at the limits of survival. They can do actions which are helping them to maintain their lives, no matter what these actions could be. Men, which are at the limits of survival are capable to do things for which they can’t be completely blamed.

There is emigration, ethnic conflicts, there is steeling, even killing,. Situated at the lower limit of their lives, primary instincts are fully present. Poverty is one of the main sources of all problems in our world. People from poor countries are committing actions against the people from developed countries. Terrorism is the answer that poor people are giving to the other people who live in good conditions. The acts of terrorism have appeared because of their hate for richer people and societies and also because those people, at some point, took advantage from the poor people.

There is no action without a reaction. This is a universal principle and it applies also in this case. Exploiting the poor people and taking advantage from them has a long but sure response. They will surely one day come against you and try to knock you out. They hate you and they’ll do anything to see you down. Because the wealth nations and citizens are well defended militarily, the organizations which are represented by the  interests of poor people have found a new way to react : the terrorism. The terrorism does not require extensive funds of money and people with these convictions are trained to do everything against the richer people. That is why these days we are living these threats.

We must help the developing countries to rich a standard of life which is better that it is now. We are not isolated ones from the others on this planet anymore, even if we are living in different places, cultures, habits and mentalities. The global communications and the globalization process moves us much more closer and the interactions are made in lots of ways. If we help a little the unlucky to attain a certain level of prosperity, we will contribute also to our stability because they will not be situated at the survival state where primary instincts are situated.

Morality, ethics and consciousness reside at a higher level of existence where all the people from this world must be. But to accomplish this, major differences between people must be passed. It’s not about communism and living all the same life, having the same culture. Globalization does not means that we all need to be the same. It’s about having common ideas about life, having the same purposes and to share the same space where we live: the Earth. We must acknowledge all of us that everything we do has a consequence even if this is not immediately seen. For this, a level of understanding and comprehension is needed.

Life is a circle. You can be very rich but you can’t not enjoy life even if you have all the reasons. You can be poor and be happier. It’s an equilibrium. Life is taking your energy equally. If you have a lots of money and you don’t have the capacity to live free, you’ll be the slave of your money. Your entire energy will be taken by the money and you’ll not have the capacity to enjoy the most simple and beautiful things. Life is us and near you, peace is within us. Humanity must pass this obstacle that represents the surpassing of primary instincts and go further to another stage of evolution. This must be a dream, an ideal, but think that without a common ideal of the humanity, humans by themselves don’t have the power to move further into existence. A collaborative effort must be done by all of us.

There’re lots of things yet to be said. The entire world depends of us. Everyone of us must be aware of its own actions. Living quietly is not so difficult after all if you take things quietly. Having peace is the natural result of wealth of every human on this planet. And this is not be only a possibility, this must be a certainty.

If you would be an alien and you would come to the Earth and observe it closely what you would think about the Human Race ? What would be the things that you’ll remark ?

Well, it’s not so difficult to see that human nations are in a permanent state of defense one against the others. You will see thousands of nuclear weapons arsenals across the World, huge military armies and vast deployments of air, naval and terrestrial forces with the purpose of maintaining peace. They are always ready for war.

Yes, we consume a good part of our resources in the armament industry, in the armies and in the defense.

If you look at the table from bellow you will see the amount of money the nations spend for DEFENSE.

You would see that the latest science discoveries are applied in the army industry with the purpose to annihilate any possible attack.

And this is not sufficient. You will see wars, conflicts, bombs detonations, terrorist attacks, destruction of goods, revolutions, human repression, human exploitation, diseases, hunger, deaths and corruption and so on…and so on.

It’s clear from the start that something is not in its place. You begin to wonder, supposing that you are a peaceful alien, why this human race is such conflictual one against to the others ? From where it comes this aggressive behavior ?  Why they always try to dominate and why they are so violent ? You see a discrepancy between the stage of evolution and what the humans are capable of doing. You will remark that even if we have already good technologies which we are using in our lives, they are not used to have a better life, they are used to enslave the others who are weaker and gain advantage from their weaknesses.

This is the world that we know it today and where we live and in where the history always remind us of great victories and conquers, battles and wars. But we accept these because it’s only what we know. VIOLENCE !

In any great victory or defeat it’s hidden something beneath even if we don’t recognize it. VIOLENCE !

Now let’s begin to analyze a little why the human race, even if it is so advanced it is so violent. Let’s trace the events before the humans evolved as a dominant specie of the Earth. Look at the animal reign, and you will see that its structure is a Trophic pyramid system, on top of which are the strongest and deadliest creatures from Earth: they are called the predators. Before the apparition of the human race there were dinosaurs which were the absolute predators. Then mammals appeared and they conquered the Earth. Finally, homo sappiens arrived on the scene and became the last predator of the running the Earth.

You see here the big picture ? If not, let me show it to you. Animals evolved in time but the ultimate predators which were situated in the top of the pyramid of the ecosystem survived by catching the pray, which is a process of violence ultimately. Look at the tigers, bears, lions, orcas. They hunt their pray and kill it through a process of violence.  Then look at the primitive people. They were hunters, predators like the animals from the top of the pyramid ecosystem. And then across the time, the tribes appeared and after a few thousand of years civilizations. But they extended their capacity of domination. When civilizations collided one with the other conflicts appeared. Wars.

The comportment of the first civilizations is not different from that of the animals from the top of the ecosystem pyramid. It’s violent, aggressive. They were very territorial and they never were content with what they have. They wanted MORE. They conquered the weak, enslave them and formed bigger and bigger empires. Through violence.

But the world evolved to what we know it today. Do you think that the things are changed now ? No, not at all. Just the methods are changed. You can’t declare war directly these days. You can’t kill directly, you must have a reason. You must appear in good light to the others because there are some interests involved here, not because we are better. We just want to look good ! We want to appear well intended ! Just until we can make : FIRE IN THE HOLE ! Then all it’s perfect and we begin to feel in our environment: war and violence. Because this is what we knew from the beginning of the human race. This is implanted in our minds, our primitive minds and our instincts. It is like the reproduction instinct.

In all human history you see everywhere: violence from one nation against the other : again and again and again. Peace is not very remarked within our history books. Peace is not interesting for the human minds and history itself. The greatest events described are the successful campaigns of wars presented with thousands of details. That nation beat the other. Wow, great, what a great victory! How this strategy worked and the enemy was defeated. In the books of history the great events are the Wars. These are the relevant facts: when a nation gained some new land. Even the churches across time perpetuated violence. Kill in the name of God because killing the unfaithful it’s not a sin. They deployed campaigns and killed the heretics in great pains, suffers and tortures. To teach you the lesson. What lesson ? What lesson can be learned from them ?

Now let’s return to the other things which a possible alien would see.

Television, for instant. Look at the movies to local television and at the Hollywood. What they are mostly presenting ? Which are the most successful movies ? Of course, the movies which present violence. I looked at the Top 250 from IMDB and the first 20 movies from the top ( I know them because I saw them all). And few of them from this top list like City of God or Fight Club are extremely violent. Violence is so well perpetuated and present in our lives that it is everywhere. Violence is sold. People buy violence. Why movies should be an exception ?

Look at the news to the television. Which are the most interesting events ? Of course, the ones which present violence. Look everywhere. This is a world of violence. If the aggressive behavior is not manifested physically than it could be manifested through language, psychology, thoughts. Everywhere!

Unfortunately, peace for us is a dream. But this dream must come true. I will explain in the next part where these roots have the origins and how we can fix it. It is obvious that if we continue to be this way, we will never survive ! We will only dream and not live in plenitude. Life must be lived peacefully not in violence !
