As I share my internet connection to my home I needed a router who can manage also the network, has wireless and I can add more space with external hard drives or sticks on usb ports . More than that I wanted to have also a storage, where I can put files, share them on the network, to have a very configurable firewall, to manage it by ssh connection which is very secure, to be able to host a small website on that space, to have also the capability to make a virtual private network. In a few words I wanted the liberty to make everything I want with almost nothing.
So I bought an Asus wl 500g Premium with 100 dollars and I transformed it in powerful router which you can buy with 600 dollars.
Which is the secret ? OpenWrt. I’m working now to a tutorial which will guide you on this operation with all the necessary details.
I wanted to be sufficiently low cost.
